LINCOLN NATIONAL FOREST GUIDELINES
Welcome and thank you for choosing the Lincoln National Forest for your
photo or filming project. You will find that the Lincoln provides
tremendous opportunities for scenic, recreational, wildlife, and historic
picture taking or filming for both amateurs and professionals alike. Please
note that in some cases a special use permit is required before you break
out the lenses. These cases are:
1) When unusual photographic activities may
adversely impact National Forest System lands or disrupt Forest Service
activities.
2) If the photographer taking pictures of
Forest users intends to sell the photographs to the users.
3) If the photography features a commercial
product for sale when National Forest Systems are used for background.
4) For location for motion picture and
television media on National Forest system lands. This involves film crews,
actors, and sets. This designation also includes anticipated news-related
uses such as: coverage of sporting events, entertainment specials, or
documentaries.
If you are a professional or amateur
photographer and your activities do not meet the above criteria, then you
are permitted to take still photographs on National Systems lands without a
permit. If you do need a permit, your first step is to fill out a special
use permit application. You may obtain one from the Lincoln National Forest
at the address and phone number below, or you can download one from
www.fs.fed.us/recreation/permits/forms.htm. This website also has the
Forest Service Manual regarding special use permit policy for your
information as well. Please also visit
www.fs.fed.us/r3/lincoln for additional information on the Lincoln
National Forest.
