NMSU-A HISTORY
New
Mexico State University at Alamogordo (NMSU-A) is a branch of New
Mexico State University. From its beginnings in the fall of 1958, NMSU-A
has grown rapidly from a student enrollment of 251, served by part-time
instructors, to an enrollment of 2299 (971 FTE) in Spring 1999,
served by 52 full-time and 100 part-time faculty members. Originally offering
evening-only traditional academic classes held in the local high school,
the branch now consists of eleven buildings; offers associate degrees in
arts and sciences as well as in vocational and technical studies; holds
classes during the day, evenings, and on weekends; and conducts courses
on Holloman Air Force Base and at other locations in the city of Alamogordo.
Currently, the branch employs 216 faculty and staff, plus student and occasional
employees.
